• Neelakantan cast Cho in 'Kanavan' (1968) after seeing his stage work, but Cho was so nervous on the first day that he flubbed every line. Neelakantan didn't yell — he just rewrote the scene to match Cho's stammering rhythm. That scene became the film's most talked-about comedy bit.
• On 'Neerum Neruppum' (1971), Cho would write his own dialogue at night and show Neelakantan in the morning. The director kept 80% of it, but always cut the punchline by one beat — making Cho's delivery land harder. Cho later said Neelakantan taught him that comedy is about timing, not words.
• The success of 'Sange Muzhangu' (1972) directly led to Cho getting his own solo directorial debut the next year. Neelakantan pushed the producer to greenlight it, saying 'If he can handle my madness, he can handle a whole film.' That film launched Cho as a director.
• During the shoot of 'Neerum Neruppum', Cho's father passed away. Neelakantan quietly paid for the funeral and didn't tell anyone until years later. Cho only found out when a production assistant slipped up. They never discussed it directly.
• Cho once said in a 1980s interview: 'Neelakantan sir was the only director who let me be a fool on screen and a writer off it. He never treated me like a comedian. He treated me like a co-writer who also acted.'
