• Jayachitra was just 16 when she signed 'Ponnukku Thanga Manasu' (1973) opposite Vijayakumar, who was 15 years older. The director K. S. Gopalakrishnan specifically wanted a fresh face to balance Vijayakumar's mature screen presence, and Jayachitra's audition — where she delivered a single dialogue without flinching — sealed the deal.
• In 'Thayilla Kuzhandhai' (1976), Vijayakumar deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to match Jayachitra's natural rhythm. She later said in an interview that he would pause mid-scene to let her catch up, turning her nervousness into a tender on-screen hesitation that audiences loved.
• During the shoot of 'Varaprasadham' (1976), Vijayakumar would bring homemade snacks for Jayachitra every morning because she was a teenager living away from home. She called him 'anna' (brother) on set, and they kept that informal address even after the films ended.
• Their last film together, 'Nayakkirin Magal' (1982), was the only one where they played a married couple — and it directly inspired director R. C. Sakthi to cast them again in a similar role. But Jayachitra had already shifted to character parts, so the reunion never happened.
• Jayachitra once told a magazine: 'Vijayakumar sir never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a younger sister who needed protection. That's why our scenes felt real — I wasn't acting, I was reacting to him.'
