The film stars Sivakumar, Jayachitra, Vijayakumar, and Vidhubala in lead roles, with Manorama, K. A. Thangavelu, and M. R. R. Vasu in supporting roles. The story follows two pairs of friends — Ramu and Shankar, and Shanthi and Geetha — whose friendships break apart due to class differences and pride. Years later, they reunite and clash over whether wealth or respect matters more. The film was praised for its honest screenplay by Balamurugan and the strong performances of its cast. It was remade in Malayalam as Bhoomidevi Pushpiniyayi in 1974. The title was borrowed from a song in the 1970 film Raman Ethanai Ramanadi. Ponnukku Thanga Manasu was released on 2 June 1973.
