• Roja Selvamani was a rising star in the mid-90s, and M. N. Nambiar was a veteran villain. They first shared screen space in 'Raja Muthirai' (1995) because the director wanted a fresh pairing — a young heroine opposite an older, menacing antagonist. Nambiar reportedly agreed to the role only after hearing Roja's dialogue delivery in a test scene.
• In 'Raasaiyya' (1995), Nambiar played a ruthless landlord, and Roja played a village girl who stands up to him. Their scenes worked because Nambiar's slow, deliberate menace forced Roja to match his intensity — she had to hold her ground without blinking, which made her character's defiance feel real.
• On the sets of 'Raja Muthirai', Nambiar would often sit with Roja between shots and narrate stories from his early days in Tamil cinema — she later said those chats were like a free masterclass in acting.
