• They first met on the sets of Pasupathi c/o Rasakkapalayam (2007). Director R. K. Selvamani specifically paired them as on-screen rivals after seeing their individual comic timing in earlier films. Neither had worked with the other before, and Selvamani bet the film's comedy track on their untested chemistry.
• In Kondaan Koduthaan (2012), Ganja Karuppu played the fast-talking sidekick while Ilavarasu played the slow-burn straight man. Ilavarasu later told a local magazine that he deliberately underplayed his reactions to let Karuppu's improvisations land harder — a rhythm they carried into every film after.
• During the shoot of Vethu Vettu (2015), the two shared a room in a small lodge near the set for three weeks. Ilavarasu cooked simple meals because Karuppu complained about the hotel food. They reportedly watched old S. Ve. Shekher comedies together every night to rehearse their timing.
• Kalavani 2 (2019) became a surprise hit largely because of their comic subplot. That film's success directly led to a wave of rural comedy-doubles in Tamil cinema — most notably the pairing of Soori and VTV Ganesh in later films, who have openly cited Karuppu and Ilavarasu as their template.
• Ilavarasu once said in an interview: 'When Ganja Karuppu starts a scene, I just have to stand there and react. He gives me ten different ways to laugh in one take. I just pick the one that feels real.'
