• Revathi was a fresh face when she signed Mann Vasanai (1983), but Janagaraj was already a busy character actor. The director, Bharathiraja, paired them specifically because he wanted a raw, unpolished chemistry — and it worked so well that the film became a sleeper hit and put both of them on the map.
• In Pudhumai Penn (1984), Janagaraj played a comic sidekick while Revathi carried the emotional weight. But off-camera, he was the one who calmed her nerves before intense scenes — she later said he had a way of making her laugh right before a crying shot, which helped her switch gears instantly.
• During the shoot of Aan Paavam (1985), Revathi and Janagaraj developed a ritual: every morning before the first take, they'd share a cup of filter coffee from the same stall near the set. They kept this up for every film they did together, even when schedules got tight.
• Their pairing in Kizhakku Vasal (1990) was so beloved that the director, R. Sundarrajan, wrote a spin-off character for Janagaraj's role in his next film — directly inspired by the banter he saw between them on set. That spin-off became a minor cult hit in its own right.
• Revathi once told a magazine: 'Janagaraj sir was my anchor. In Idhaya Thamarai (1990), I had a breakdown scene that I couldn't get right. He pulled me aside and said, "Think of the worst thing that ever happened to you, then add a mosquito bite." I laughed, relaxed, and nailed it in one take.'
