• Charle was a popular comedian on stage before films. Kausalya was a newcomer. Director S. P. Muthuraman paired them in 'Kaalamellam Kadhal Vaazhga' (1997) because he wanted a fresh, non-glamorous romantic pair — and Charle specifically asked for Kausalya after seeing her in a TV ad.
• In 'Pooveli' (1998), Charle improvised most of his comic lines on set. Kausalya would break character and laugh, so the director kept the camera rolling. The final cut includes three shots where she's genuinely smiling at his ad-libs — not acting.
• During the shoot of 'Aasaiyil Oru Kaditham' (1999), Kausalya and Charle developed a ritual: before every romantic scene, they'd share a cup of filter coffee and rehearse the lines exactly once. No more, no less. Charle later said it helped them stay 'fresh and nervous' like real lovers.
• Charle once told a magazine: 'Kausalya made me look like a hero. Without her, I was just a comedian trying to act serious. She gave me the confidence to be vulnerable on screen.'
• Their pairing in 'Kaalamellam Kadhal Vaazhga' (1997) directly inspired director Cheran to cast a similar 'unlikely romantic duo' in his later hit 'Pandavar Bhoomi' (2001). Cheran admitted in an interview that he watched their film three times to study how a non-glamorous pair could carry a love story.
