• They first paired in 'Kalam Vellum' (1970) because director A. C. Tirulokchandar saw them as a comic relief duo that could match the film's serious tone. Nagesh was already a star comedian; Vijaya Lalitha was relatively new. The director bet that her deadpan timing would bounce off Nagesh's manic energy — and it worked so well that they made six more films in four years.
• In 'Then Kinnam' (1971), Nagesh would deliberately flub a line during rehearsals just to see how Vijaya Lalitha would react. She never broke character — she'd just stare at him with that stone-cold face until he cracked. That became their signature: he'd go wild, she'd stay frozen, and the audience would lose it.
