• Bhim Singh first cast Nagesh in 'Pachai Vilakku' (1964) after watching him play a small comic role in another film. He bet on Nagesh carrying a full-length dramatic role — and that film became the breakthrough that proved Nagesh could do more than just comedy.
• On the sets of 'Sadhu Mirandal' (1966), Bhim Singh would let Nagesh rewrite his own dialogues on the spot. Nagesh’s improvisations were so sharp that Singh often kept the camera rolling just to capture his ad-libs — a rare freedom for a supporting actor in the 60s.
• Their 1976 film 'Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal' directly inspired the 2018 Tamil anthology 'Nadigaiyar Thilagam' — a whole film built around the same theme of an actress’s life. The original’s raw portrayal of a sex worker’s dignity was considered too bold for its time.
• Nagesh and Bhim Singh had a standing ritual: before every film’s first day of shoot, they’d share a cup of filter coffee at the same hotel in Kodambakkam. They kept this up for all 7 films, even when schedules got tight.
• Nagesh once said about Bhim Singh: 'He didn’t just direct me — he taught me how to cry on camera without glycerin. Every tear in his films was real.'
