• K. Vijayan cast Nagesh in 'Dheiva Vamsam' (1973) after seeing him in a stage play — Nagesh was initially hesitant to return to films full-time, but Vijayan convinced him by tailoring the lead role to his comic timing.
• On the sets of 'Dheepam' (1977), Nagesh would rewrite his own dialogues in the morning and Vijayan would approve them by lunch — the director trusted the actor's instinct for rhythm so much that he let him reshape entire scenes.
