• Bandham (1985) was supposed to star a different heroine. Manorama was a last-minute replacement after the original actress walked out. Shalini, then a child star, had to adjust her entire performance to match Manorama's raw energy on the fly.
• In Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001), Shalini played the mature, restrained daughter while Manorama played the loud, emotional mother. The director said Manorama deliberately underplayed her scenes so Shalini's quiet grief would hit harder — a rare selfless move from a veteran.
