• Rajinikanth was still a bus conductor-turned-rising star when Nambiar — already a veteran villain from the 1950s — agreed to share screen space with him in En Kelvikku Enna Bathil (1978). Nambiar later said he saw something raw in the newcomer and told the director, 'Let him carry the film; I'll stand behind him.'
• In Garjanai (1981), Nambiar played the cold-blooded antagonist while Rajinikanth was the righteous hero. Their face-off scenes had no dialogue for minutes — just Nambiar's slow, deliberate stare forcing Rajini to match his stillness. Rajini later admitted he learned 'the power of silence' from watching Nambiar on set.
• On the sets of Naan Mahaan Alla (1984), Nambiar would quietly correct Rajinikanth's Tamil diction between takes. Rajini, who grew up speaking Marathi and Kannada, never took offense — he called Nambiar 'Sir' throughout the shoot and asked him to review his lines before every scene.
• Baba (2002) was their final film together — and the only one where Nambiar played a positive role (a temple priest). Rajinikanth personally insisted on casting him, saying he wanted the audience to see Nambiar's 'kind eyes' before he retired. The film's devotional soundtrack became a hit, but the real ripple was that it inspired a younger generation of actors to seek out Nambiar for character roles.
• Rajinikanth once told a magazine: 'Nambiar sir didn't need to raise his voice to scare you. I learned that a villain's power is in his eyes, not his fists. Every time we acted together, I felt like a student in front of a master.'
