• Mohan Raja didn't discover Jayam Ravi — Ravi's father was a producer — but Raja cast him in 'Jayam' (2003) after seeing his screen test. The film was a remake of a Telugu hit, and Raja bet his entire career on a newcomer. It worked: the film ran for 175 days.
• Raja wrote every film with Ravi's voice in mind. In 'Thani Oruvan' (2015), he deliberately gave Ravi long, rapid-fire monologues in the climax — because he knew Ravi could deliver them without a single cut. Ravi rehearsed those scenes for two weeks straight.
• 'Thani Oruvan' (2015) directly inspired the Hindi film 'Mardaani 2' (2019). The cat-and-mouse structure between a cop and a genius villain was lifted wholesale. Raja and Ravi's film became the template for a whole wave of Tamil 'intellectual action' films.
• Raja and Ravi have a standing rule: no phone calls after 9 PM. Raja is a night owl who edits till dawn; Ravi is an early riser. They text instead. This schedule clash has been their inside joke for over a decade.
• Mohan Raja once said: 'Ravi is the only actor who can make my lines sound like they were his own. He doesn't act — he becomes the character so completely that I forget I wrote the dialogue.'
