• They first faced off in 'Gaddaar' (1995) as enemies — Shetty played a cop, Bendre played a gangster's moll. The director, T. L. V. Prasad, saw their test footage and immediately signed them for two more films back-to-back.
• In 'Rakshak' (1996), Shetty insisted Bendre do her own stunts for the climax chase. She ran barefoot on gravel for three takes. He later said her grit made him raise his own game in action scenes.
• During 'Sapoot' (1996), Bendre would cook Shetty's favourite Maharashtrian snack — sabudana vada — on set every Sunday. Shetty called her 'the only co-star who fed me between punches.'
• Their pairing in 'Humse Badhkar Kaun' (1998) was so popular in Bihar and UP that local distributors started demanding 'Shetty-Bendre jodi' posters for single-screen theatres — a trend that forced producers to cast them together in two more unreleased projects.
• Shetty once told a trade magazine: 'Sonali was the only actress who would argue with me about my dialogue delivery. She'd say, "Sunny, you're growling, not acting." I needed that.'
• In 'Qahar' (1997), Bendre improvised a scene where she slaps Shetty mid-dialogue. The slap was so loud the sound recordist flinched. Shetty stayed in character and laughed — that take made the final cut.
