• Rani Mukerji was the one who pushed for Saif Ali Khan to be cast in Hum Tum. The director Kunal Kohli initially wanted a different actor, but Rani insisted Saif was the only one who could play the smug cartoonist Karan. She told the team: 'He has that arrogance with a twinkle.'
• On the sets of Hum Tum, Saif and Rani developed a rhythm where he would deliberately flub his lines to make her break character. Rani later said that Saif's constant improvisation forced her to stay on her toes — she couldn't rely on rehearsed beats, she had to react live. That's why their banter feels so natural.
• Hum Tum directly inspired the Hollywood rom-com 'The Proposal' (2009). The film's writer Pete Chiarelli admitted in an interview that the 'enemies-to-lovers' structure with a forced proximity setup was lifted from the Hindi film — specifically the scene where Rani and Saif are stuck in a train compartment and argue about love.
• During the shoot of Ta Ra Rum Pum, Saif and Rani would play pranks on the crew by swapping their dialogue sheets. They'd rehearse each other's lines in the other's voice, then switch back right before the take. The director Siddharth Anand said it drove the script supervisor crazy but kept the set loose.
