• They first paired up in 1979's 'Janata Havaldar' only because Rajesh Khanna's original leading lady walked out. Hema stepped in last minute, and the film became a hit — so they kept going.
• On the sets of 'Kudrat' (1981), Hema would quietly correct Rajesh's Hindi diction mid-scene. He never got angry — he'd just nod and redo the line. She made him sound less theatrical, more real.
• Their 1985 flop 'Hum Dono' (4.3/10) was the last time they played a romantic couple. After that, every film together cast them as siblings or in separate tracks — the audience had stopped buying them as lovers.
