• Devaraj-Mohan was a newcomer when he cast Devaraj in 'Uravu Solla Oruvan' (1975). The director had seen him in a stage play and insisted on him for the lead, even though producers wanted a bigger name.
• In 'Annakili' (1976), Devaraj-Mohan wrote the dialogues specifically around Devaraj's natural, understated style. He cut down his own usual poetic lines because Devaraj delivered better with fewer words.
• Their second film 'Annakili' (1976) launched Ilaiyaraaja as a music composer. Devaraj-Mohan gave the rookie composer full freedom, and Devaraj sang the hit 'Annakili Unnai' — the first ever Ilaiyaraaja song recorded for a film.
• Devaraj and Devaraj-Mohan were close friends off-screen. During 'Kavikkuyil' (1977), they would often stay up all night discussing scripts at the director's home, with Devaraj helping punch up the comedy scenes.
• Devaraj-Mohan once said: 'Devaraj was the only actor who could make my silences speak. He didn't need dialogue to carry a scene.'
