Partnership facts

• Sivaji Ganesan and Cho first worked together in Lakshmi Kalyanam (1968) because Cho wrote the script specifically for Sivaji. Cho had been a playwright and critic before this — Sivaji trusted him enough to let him direct the film too.
• In Thanga Pathakkam (1974), Sivaji played a strict father and Cho played his comic sidekick. The trick was: Cho wrote his own dialogues on set, and Sivaji would adjust his timing to match Cho's rhythm. Sivaji once said Cho made him 'act lighter' than he usually did.
• Cho was one of the few people who could openly tease Sivaji about his larger-than-life image. On the sets of Niraikudam (1969), Cho would crack jokes about Sivaji's dialogue delivery between takes — and Sivaji would laugh it off. No one else got away with that.
• Avan Oru Charithiram (1977) was the last film they made together. It was a political satire written by Cho, and it directly inspired a wave of Tamil political films in the 1980s — including a young Kamal Haasan's early experiments with political roles.
• Cho once said in an interview: 'Sivaji was the only actor who could make my words sound like they were his own. I wrote for him, but he made me look like a genius.'
• In Rojavin Raja (1976), Sivaji played a blind man and Cho played his caretaker. Cho deliberately underplayed every scene — he told the director that if he tried to be funny, the audience would stop believing Sivaji's blindness. That restraint made the film work.
