• Panthulu was producing 'Kappalottiya Thamizhan' and wanted M. G. Ramachandran for the lead. Sivaji heard about it, walked into Panthulu's office, and said 'I am doing this film.' Panthulu agreed on the spot.
• On 'Karnan' sets, Panthulu would block every scene in long master shots first. Sivaji hated that — he wanted close-ups for his dialogue delivery. So Panthulu let him do one full take his way, then quietly reshot the scene in close-ups later. Sivaji never knew.
• Because 'Kappalottiya Thamizhan' was a hit, Panthulu immediately cast Sivaji in 'Bale Pandiya' — a comedy. That film directly launched the trend of Sivaji doing full-length comedies, which he hadn't done before. Every comic role he took after 1962 traces back to that Panthulu call.
• Panthulu was a Kannadiga who barely spoke Tamil. On every shoot, Sivaji would translate Panthulu's Kannada instructions to the Tamil crew — and then add his own dramatic flourishes. Panthulu would just nod and say 'Avan solradhu correct' (What he says is correct).
• Sivaji once said: 'Panthulu sir made me act like a king in Karnan and like a street urchin in Muradan Muthu — in the same year. Only he could see both sides of me.' He said this at a 1965 film industry meet.
