Kappalottiya Thamizhan is a 1961 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film produced and directed by B. R. Panthulu. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, and Savitri in lead roles. It is based on the 1944 biography of the same name by M. P. Sivagnanam, detailing the life of freedom fighter V. O. Chidambaram Pillai. The story follows Chidambaram's journey from a small-town lawyer to a revolutionary who founded the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company to challenge British maritime monopoly. The film depicts his legal battles, his friendship with Subramaniya Siva, his arrest, and his brutal imprisonment. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil at the 9th National Film Awards. Despite initial commercial failure, the film gained recognition after a tax-exempted re-release in 1967. The soundtrack features songs based on poems by Subramania Bharati, composed by G. Ramanathan.
