• Thevar once told a magazine: 'Sivaji would finish a take and then walk over to my chair and ask, 'Did I make you look bad?' That's the only co-star who ever checked on me.'
• Their first film together, Kuravanji (1960), almost didn't happen. Thevar was a stage actor with zero film experience. Sivaji personally insisted the director cast him, betting his own star power on an unknown.
• In Kungumam (1963), Sivaji played the loud, emotional hero while Thevar played the quiet, coiled antagonist. Thevar later said Sivaji deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in their scenes together — to let Thevar's silences land harder.
• Thevar never called Sivaji by his screen name. Off set, he always addressed him by his real name, Villupuram Chinnaiahpillai — a habit that started on the first day of Kuravanji and lasted until Sivaji's death.
• Their 1969 film Thangachurangam directly inspired the 1975 blockbuster Apoorva Raagangal. Director K. Balachander watched their intense father-son dynamic in that film and wrote a whole new script around the same emotional conflict.
• In Ethiroli (1970), their last film together, Sivaji insisted on shooting their confrontation scene in one continuous take. Thevar later admitted he was terrified — Sivaji's intensity was so real he forgot his lines twice.
