• Sivaji Ganesan personally requested Kanchana for Motor Sundaram Pillai (1966) after seeing her in a stage play. He told the director she had the right comic timing for the role.
• In Sivandha Mann (1969), Kanchana’s character was written as a fiery village woman. Sivaji slowed his usual rapid dialogue delivery to match her rhythm, letting her lead every confrontation scene.
• During Vilayattu Pillai (1970), Kanchana was pregnant. Sivaji insisted the shooting schedule be rearranged so she never had to work past 5 PM. He personally drove her home every evening.
• Avan Oru Sarithiram (1976) was the first Tamil film where a female lead’s character arc was given equal screen time to the male lead’s. Kanchana’s role directly inspired the strong-willed heroine template in later films like Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal.
• Kanchana once said in a 1980 interview: 'Sivaji sir never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a partner. If I fumbled a line, he would stop the shot and say, 'Let her find her breath.' That never happened with anyone else.'
• In Avan Oru Charithiram (1977), the climax scene was a single 12-minute take. Sivaji and Kanchana improvised the entire argument without a written script. The director kept the camera rolling because neither broke character.
