• Robo Shankar was a last-minute replacement in Adangathey (2017). The original actor dropped out days before the shoot. Sathyaraj personally asked the director to bring Shankar in, based on a comedy stage show he'd seen years earlier.
• In Viswasam (2019), Sathyaraj played the stern father-in-law. Robo Shankar played the comic sidekick. But on set, Shankar would improvise punchlines mid-scene, and Sathyaraj would deliberately pause his dialogue to let the laugh land — a rhythm they built over three films.
• During Tamilarasan (2023) shoot, Sathyaraj had a knee injury and couldn't stand for long takes. Robo Shankar would crouch beside him between shots, feeding him water and cracking jokes to keep his energy up. The crew called them 'appa-gana' (father-son).

• In Singapore Saloon (2024), Sathyaraj's character was written as a grumpy salon owner. Robo Shankar's character was a hyperactive apprentice. The director said the entire 'argument scene' in the second half was unscripted — they just let the two actors go at it for 12 minutes. They used 8 minutes in the final cut.
