• Kamal Haasan personally called Gnanasambandam to act in Virumaandi (2004) after seeing his stage work. Gnanasambandam was a theatre veteran with zero film experience. Kamal bet on him for a key role.
• In Virumaandi, Nassar played the ruthless lawyer and Gnanasambandam played a village elder. Their courtroom face-off was entirely improvised — Kamal let them go at each other for 12 minutes. That scene is still studied in Tamil acting workshops.
• Nassar and Gnanasambandam were neighbours in Chennai for over a decade. They would rehearse dialogues at 5 AM on the terrace before reporting to set. No one else in the crew knew they were prepping together.
• Gnanasambandam once said in an interview: 'Nassar taught me how to breathe in front of a camera. I taught him how to hold a pause on stage. We swapped crafts like kids swapping lunch.'
• Their work in Uttama Villain (2015) directly inspired a new generation of Tamil theatre actors to audition for mainstream cinema. The film's casting director later said she got 300+ resumes from stage performers within a month of its release.
• In Idhaya Thirudan (2006), Nassar played a corrupt cop and Gnanasambandam played his silent sidekick. Gnanasambandam had zero lines in the entire film — only expressions. Nassar insisted the director keep it that way, saying 'his face says more than my dialogue.'
