• Director K. S. Gopalakrishnan cast Pushpalatha opposite S. V. Ranga Rao in 'Kavitha' (1962) after seeing her in a stage play. Ranga Rao, already a veteran, personally requested that she be given equal screen time — he felt her intensity would balance his own.
• In 'Saradha' (1962), Ranga Rao deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in their confrontation scene so Pushpalatha could match his rhythm. She later said he 'conducted' her like a musician — he'd pause mid-line to let her reaction land first.
• Their third film together, 'Pachai Vilakku' (1964), directly inspired the 1970s trend of 'mother-sentiment' dramas in Tamil cinema. The scene where Pushpalatha's character slaps Ranga Rao's was recreated in at least four later films, including a 1978 remake.
• Pushpalatha was terrified of Ranga Rao's on-screen anger. Between takes on 'Kavitha', he would crack jokes in Telugu to make her laugh. She later revealed he taught her how to cry on cue by telling her a sad story about his own mother before every emotional scene.
• Pushpalatha once said: 'Ranga Rao sir didn't act with me — he acted for me. In 'Saradha', he would whisper the next line if I forgot, but make it look like part of the scene.'
