The 1990s account for 60% of everything they made together. The 1990s belonged to Mayabazar; the 2010s to Vaaimai. Urvashi acted in every film; Ramki acted in all of them. Strictly Tamil cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

• They first paired up in Mayabazar (1995) because the director saw them at a mutual friend's wedding and thought they looked like they'd bicker well on screen. Urvashi was already a star; Ramki was still finding his footing. She later said she agreed only because he seemed 'too serious to be a hero'.
• In Irattai Roja (1996), Urvashi played a double role — one twin was loud and clumsy, the other was shy. Ramki had to react differently to each without any dialogue cues. He told a magazine later that she'd wink at him off-camera to signal which twin was on set, so he'd adjust his performance on the fly.
• After Irattai Roja flopped, they didn't speak for nearly 20 years. Then in 2016, Ramki called Urvashi out of the blue to ask if she'd do Vaaimai. She said yes only if he promised they'd eat biryani together after every shoot — a ritual they kept for both Vaaimai and Koothan.
• Urvashi on Ramki, during Vaaimai promotions: 'He's the only co-star who still calls me 'Akka' on set. Even when we're playing lovers. It's weird but it works — he treats me like family, so I can yell at him freely in scenes.'
• Their 2017 film Koothan was the first Tamil movie to cast a real-life transgender person in a lead role alongside mainstream stars. Urvashi and Ramki both took pay cuts to make sure the film's budget went to community outreach during production.
