• Shankar was a newcomer when Latha cast him as the male lead in 'Pallandu Vazhga' (1975). She was already a star. She picked him from a pile of headshots because he looked 'earnest, not flashy'.
• On the set of 'Uzhaikkum Karangal' (1976), Latha would rewrite her own lines to make Shankar's character look stronger. She told the director: 'He needs to win the argument on screen, or the audience won't respect him.'
• After 'Irattai Manidhan' (1982) flopped, Shankar stopped returning Latha's calls. She later said in a private gathering: 'He thought I brought him bad luck. I thought he just lost his nerve.' They never spoke again.
• Latha once told a magazine: 'Shankar was the only co-star who made me forget my lines. Not because he was distracting — because he was listening so hard, I felt I had to be better.'
• The fight choreography in 'Uzhaikkum Karangal' (1976) was so raw that a young stunt coordinator named 'Super Subbarayan' copied the style for his first film. He later became the go-to fight master for Rajinikanth.
• Latha had to convince the producer of 'Pallandu Vazhga' (1975) to keep Shankar. The producer wanted a more famous face. Latha threatened to walk. The producer caved. The film ran for 100 days.
