• K. Balaji was a rising villain when Saroja Devi insisted he play the male lead in 'Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmanai' (1960). The director wanted a bigger name, but she told the producer she wouldn't do the film without Balaji opposite her.
• In 'Asthikkoru Aanum Asaikku Oru Ponnum' (1962), Balaji deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to match Saroja Devi's natural rhythm. She later said that pause made their arguments on screen feel real — like a couple actually thinking before snapping.
• Saroja Devi and Balaji had a standing bet on every film: whoever flubbed a line first had to buy the other filter coffee from the canteen. Balaji lost every single time on 'En Thambi' (1968) and joked he kept her caffeinated through the entire shoot.
