• RJ Balaji was a radio jockey with zero acting experience when Manobala cast him as the lead in Mappilai Vinayagar (2015). Manobala took a huge gamble — he didn't even audition Balaji, just trusted his voice and energy from the airwaves.
• On the sets of Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru (2016), Manobala would let RJ Balaji improvise entire dialogues in his signature radio style. Balaji would then look at Manobala for a nod — if Manobala laughed, the take was kept. That's how most of the film's comedy scenes were built.
• LKG (2019) was the film that turned RJ Balaji from a radio star into a bankable film hero. Manobala deliberately wrote the role to showcase Balaji's political satire skills — and it worked so well that Balaji went on to write and direct his own political comedy, Veetla Vishesham, two years later.
