• Thengai Srinivasan was a popular comedian when K. Shankar cast him in 'Uzhaikkum Karangal' (1976). But Shankar didn't just want him for laughs — he gave Srinivasan a serious, dramatic role as a factory worker. That film changed how Tamil cinema saw Thengai.
• On the sets of 'Kungumam Kadhai Sollugiradhu' (1978), Shankar would write dialogue in the morning and hand it to Thengai. Thengai would read it once, then improvise half of it on camera. Shankar loved it — he said Thengai's timing made his scenes land harder than anything he could script.
• The success of 'Uzhaikkum Karangal' (1976) directly led to Shankar casting Thengai in two more films back-to-back. That three-film run made Thengai a bankable name in non-comedy roles — something no other director had tried before.
• Shankar and Thengai never worked together after 1978. No fallout — just drifted apart as Shankar moved to TV serials and Thengai focused on stage plays. They never even had a public reunion.
