• K. Shankar was already a top director when he cast Prameela Devika as the female lead in Aadi Perukku (1962). She was a newcomer with just one film behind her. He took a risk on her because he saw her perform in a stage play — and she delivered the breakout role that made her a star.
• In Andavan Kattalai (1964), Shankar gave Prameela Devika a rare comic sequence where she had to argue with a parrot. She improvised most of the dialogue on set. Shankar kept the camera rolling and later said that scene became the film's most talked-about moment.
• Their third film together, Anbukarangal (1965), was the first Tamil film to feature a female doctor as the central character. That role — played by Prameela Devika — directly inspired a wave of socially-conscious women-centric films in the late 1960s, including the hit Iru Kodugal.
• On the sets of Aadi Perukku, Prameela Devika was terrified of water. Shankar personally waded into the river with her for the title song shoot, holding her hand through every take. She later said that moment made her trust him completely as a director.
• Prameela Devika once said in a 1980s interview: 'Shankar sir didn't just direct me — he taught me how to breathe in front of a camera. Every pause, every blink, he had a reason for it.'
