The 2000s belonged to Aadhavan; the 2010s to Thuppakki. Manobala acted in every film; Sathyan acted in all of them. Strictly Tamil cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

• Sathyan was a last-minute replacement in Aadhavan. The original actor dropped out, and Manobala pushed for Sathyan, saying he had the perfect comic timing to play the hero's sidekick. That film became their first collaboration.
• In Nanban, Manobala let Sathyan improvise most of his lines. Sathyan would riff for two minutes, and Manobala would just nod and keep the camera rolling. The scene where Sathyan's character panics before an exam — that was entirely his own dialogue.
• Thuppakki's success directly led to Sathyan getting his own solo comedy track in later Vijay films. Before this pair, Sathyan was just a supporting face. After Thuppakki, directors started writing full comic subplots for him.
• Manobala and Sathyan were close friends off-screen. They would often travel together to shoots in the same car, and Sathyan would call Manobala 'anna' (elder brother). After their three films, they stayed in touch but never worked together again — Sathyan passed away in 2022.
