• Manobala and Vaiyapuri first worked together in 1999's 'Chinna Raja' — but neither was the lead. Manobala was a supporting actor, Vaiyapuri a comedian. They didn't share a single scene. Their actual collaboration started years later when Vaiyapuri, now a director, called Manobala for a role in 'Villu' (2009).
• On the set of 'Kalakalappu 2' (2018), Vaiyapuri would write dialogue in the morning and hand it to Manobala, who then improvised half of it on the spot. Vaiyapuri told a behind-the-scenes crew that Manobala's timing saved scenes that were flat on paper.
• Their 2018 hit 'Kalakalappu 2' directly led to Vaiyapuri being offered bigger-budget comedies. Manobala's performance as the bumbling sidekick in that film became a template that Vaiyapuri reused in his next two projects.
• Manobala and Vaiyapuri had a standing ritual: before every film's first day of shoot, they'd share a cup of filter coffee at the same shop in Chennai's Kodambakkam. They did this for all eight films, even when schedules were tight.
• Vaiyapuri once said in an interview: 'Manobala sir is the only actor who can make me laugh even when I'm stressed about the budget. He never asks for retakes — he just gives you three versions of the same line in one take.'
