• Madhuri was the bigger star when they first paired up in 1988. S. S. Chandran was still a supporting actor finding his footing. She personally asked the director of 'Manaivi Oru Mandhiri' to cast him opposite her — she had seen his comic timing in a stage play and wanted that energy in her film.
• In 'Kalicharan' (1988), Madhuri deliberately slowed down her dialogue delivery to match Chandran's natural rhythm. She told the director that his pauses were the funniest part of his performance — and that she'd rather look awkward than rush him. The scene where she waits for his punchline is still clipped on Tamil meme pages.
• During the shoot of 'Sahadevan Mahadevan' (1988), Madhuri found out Chandran couldn't afford a proper lunch on set. She started ordering extra food for two and pretended she was 'on a diet' so he'd eat without embarrassment. He never thanked her directly — but he started bringing her homemade pickles for the next three films.
• Their pairing in 'Vasanthi' (1988) was so well-liked that the producer of 'En Veedu En Kanavar' (1990) specifically demanded both of them as a package deal. • S. S. Chandran once said in a 1995 interview: 'Madhuri made me feel like a hero. She never once looked down on me for being a comedian. On set, she treated me like her co-star, not her sidekick. That's rare in this industry.'
• After 'En Veedu En Kanavar' (1990), they never worked together again. But Madhuri sent Chandran a handwritten note when his son got married in 2005. He kept it in his wallet until he passed away. His family found it during the funeral.
