Shah cast them as a mismatched father-son duo after seeing their individual theatre work — Irani's timing in 'Mahatma vs Gandhi' and Yadav's in 'Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya'.
• In 'Waqt' (2005), Irani played the stern, upright father and Yadav the irresponsible son. Irani deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to create pauses that made Yadav's frantic energy pop more.
