• Kader Khan was already a top writer in Hindi cinema when Raghavendra Rao cast him as the villain in 'Jaani Dost' (1983). Rao had seen Khan's work in South Indian remakes and trusted him to bring both menace and comic timing — a combo most directors didn't know Khan had.
• On the set of 'Naya Kadam' (1984), Raghavendra Rao would shoot Khan's dialogue scenes in one take because Khan delivered his lines with such precise rhythm that Rao didn't need to cut. Rao later said Khan's timing let him focus on the camera moves instead of the performance.
• Raghavendra Rao and Kader Khan never shared a meal together during the making of 'Hoshiyar' (1985). Khan was a strict non-vegetarian, Rao was a pure vegetarian, and both were too stubborn to adjust. They'd sit at separate tables between shots and just nod at each other.
• The success of 'Jaani Dost' (1983) directly led to Raghavendra Rao casting Kader Khan in his Telugu films. Khan went on to write and act in over 20 Telugu movies after this, becoming one of the few Hindi actors to cross over into South Indian cinema in the 1980s.
• Kader Khan once told a trade magazine: 'Raghavendra Rao sahab never told me how to act. He just said, "Kader, you know the character better than me. Do what you feel." That trust made me give my best in all three films.'
