Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in Nallavan (1988), but the real spark came when director K. Balachander paired them in Keladi Kanmani (1990). Balachander saw that Janagaraj's raw comic timing could ground Raadhika's intense emotional scenes — and he was right.
• In Kalikaalam (1992), Janagaraj played the comic relief while Raadhika carried the family drama. But here's the trick: Janagaraj would deliberately flub his lines in rehearsal to make Raadhika laugh, loosening her up before the actual take. She said it helped her drop her guard.
• Their only film that didn't feature Janagaraj as pure comedy was Puthiya Aatchi (1995). It was a political drama where he played a serious role — and it directly inspired director Seenu Ramasamy to later cast Janagaraj in a similar grey-shaded part in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010).
• Off-screen, they were polar opposites. Raadhika was a disciplined, schedule-obsessed professional. Janagaraj was famously late and would wander off set. But she never complained — she said his chaos made her sets feel alive. They stayed friends long after the films ended.
• Raadhika once said in an interview: 'Janagaraj made me laugh even when I was crying in a scene. He'd whisper something stupid between takes, and I'd have to hide my smile. That's why our scenes together feel so real.'
