• Santhanam was still a TV comedian when he was cast in Rendu (2006). Anushka Shetty, making her Tamil debut, had no idea who he was. They bonded on set because both were outsiders — she from Kannada cinema, he from television — and they helped each other figure out the Tamil film industry's rhythm.
• In Rendu, Santhanam's comedy track was written to give Anushka's character breathing room between emotional scenes. He deliberately slowed his delivery so her reactions could land. She later said his timing taught her how to hold a pause for maximum effect.
• During Alex Pandian (2013), Santhanam would run his comedy lines by Anushka before takes. She was the only co-star he trusted to tell him if a joke was too crass. She vetoed three lines on set, and he cut them without argument.

• After Lingaa (2014) flopped, they stopped talking for nearly two years. Santhanam later admitted in an interview that he felt Anushka blamed his comedy track for the film's tone mismatch. They patched up at a mutual friend's wedding in 2017 but never worked together again.
