• For their first film together, CID Shankar (1970), Jaishankar was already a star. Moorthy was a newcomer. The director, T. P. Gajendran, took a risk pairing them — and Moorthy later said Jaishankar personally helped him rehearse his lines on set.
• In Gaayathri (1977), Jaishankar played the brooding hero while Moorthy played the comic sidekick. Moorthy’s timing was so sharp that Jaishankar deliberately slowed his own delivery in their scenes together — letting Moorthy’s punchlines land harder.
• After Thanikattu Raja (1982), Jaishankar recommended Moorthy for a role in a different director’s film. Moorthy got the part. He later said Jaishankar never asked for a favour in return — not even a coffee.
• Moorthy once told a magazine: 'Jaishankar never treated me like a junior artist. He’d say, “Moorthy, you make my scenes look good.” That’s why I did every film he asked me to.'
• Their 1984 film Kudumbam was one of the first Tamil movies to feature a comedic subplot that directly mirrored the main romantic track — a structure later copied by several 90s comedies. Moorthy and Jaishankar’s banter in that film became a template for buddy pairs in Tamil cinema.
