Partnership facts

• Raghuvaran was initially hesitant to play Devayani's father in Thotta Chinungi (1995) — he was only 15 years older than her. The director had to convince him that the age gap on screen would work, and it became the film that launched Devayani as a leading lady.
• In Suswagatam (1997), Raghuvaran deliberately underplayed his scenes opposite Devayani. He told her to carry the emotional weight while he stayed quiet — a trick he used to make her performance pop. She later said that taught her how to lead a scene without dialogue.
• During Poonthottam (1998), Raghuvaran would stay back after pack-up to rehearse the next day's emotional scenes with Devayani. She was new to heavy drama, and he'd run lines with her until 2 AM in the hotel lobby. No one else on set knew.
• Devayani once said in an interview: 'Raghuvaran sir never treated me like a junior artist. He'd say, 'You're the hero here, I'm just the father.' That confidence he gave me — I carried it to every film after.'
• Their last film together, Naani (2004), was a remake of a Telugu hit. But the Tamil version's success directly led to Devayani being cast in her first crossover Bollywood film the next year — a door Raghuvaran had quietly recommended her for.
