Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in Mawaali (1983), but neither was the original choice. The lead pair was supposed to be Rekha and Vinod Khanna. When Khanna dropped out, the producers scrambled and paired Jayapradha with Prem Chopra — who was originally cast as the villain. They ended up playing lovers, not enemies.
• In Maqsad (1984), Prem Chopra played a soft-hearted father figure to Jayapradha's character. He deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery so her more emotional scenes wouldn't feel rushed. She later said that adjustment made her cry on cue in the climax.
• During the shoot of Swarag Se Sunder (1986), Jayapradha's mother fell seriously ill. Prem Chopra quietly arranged for a specialist from Mumbai to fly down to the location in Ooty. He never told the press. She found out years later from a crew member.
• "He was the only co-star who would rehearse with me even when the director said 'pack up.' He'd say, 'Beta, let's get it right for the audience, not for the camera.'" — Jayapradha, in a 2017 interview with Filmfare, recalling Prem Chopra on the sets of Tyaagi (1992).
• Their pairing in Insaniyat (1994) was so mismatched by age and screen image that it directly inspired a parody in the 1995 comedy 'Andaz Apna Apna' — where a similar older-man-younger-woman pairing is played for laughs. The film's writer later admitted he had Insaniyat in mind.
