• For Sargam (1979), Jayapradha was already a huge star in the South. Aruna Irani was the one who suggested her for the role of the mute dancer. The director, K. Viswanath, flew down to Madras just to meet her.
• In Sargam, Aruna Irani played the loud, comic foil to Jayapradha's silent, expressive heroine. Aruna would improvise lines on set to make Jayapradha break character and laugh — and those unscripted giggles made it into the final cut.
• During the shoot of Mawaali (1983), Jayapradha was going through a tough breakup. Aruna Irani would bring her homemade Gujarati snacks to her vanity van every single day. They never talked about it — just ate in silence.
• The success of Sargam directly led to the trend of pairing a South Indian leading lady with a character actress from Hindi cinema. After this film, at least five similar pairings were announced in 1980 alone.
• Aruna Irani once said in an interview: 'Jayapradha didn't need to speak. I had to do all the talking for both of us. She made me a better actress because I had to earn her silence.'
• Their third film, Maa (1991), almost didn't happen. Jayapradha had taken a break from acting. Aruna Irani — who was also producing the film — personally rewrote the mother role to be smaller so Jayapradha could shoot it in just 10 days.
