• They first teamed up in Thaye Neeye Thunai (1987) because the director saw them as a 'safe pair' — Vijaya was the reigning queen of family dramas, and Chandran was the go-to comedian for moral-support roles. Neither had to audition; the producer just booked them together based on their individual track records.
• In Paattukku Oru Thalaivan (1989), Chandran deliberately slowed down his comic timing to match Vijaya's more measured delivery. He later told a magazine that if he went too fast, 'she'd look like a statue next to me.' So he let her set the rhythm, and he filled the gaps.
• Their 1992 film Naalaiya Theerpu was the first Tamil movie to feature a courtroom scene where the comedian (Chandran) cross-examines the heroine (Vijaya) without a single joke — a straight-faced dramatic moment that surprised audiences and later inspired a similar scene in the 1996 film Poove Unakkaga.
• On the sets of Kavalai Padathe Sagodhara (1998), Vijaya would bring homemade snacks for Chandran every single day because she knew he had a weak stomach and couldn't eat catered food. He called her 'amma' (mother) on set, and she called him 'thambi' (younger brother).
