• For Naanal (1965), director K. Balachander was unsure about pairing Vijaya and Janaki together — he thought their acting styles would clash. Janaki personally convinced him by offering to adjust her performance to match Vijaya's naturalistic rhythm.
• In Akka Thangai (1969), Vijaya played the elder sister who sacrifices everything, while Janaki played the rebellious younger one. Janaki later said Vijaya would deliberately slow down her dialogue delivery in emotional scenes so Janaki could catch up and react — a trick that made their sisterly bond feel real.
• During the shoot of Deivam (1972), Vijaya and Janaki shared a small room in a remote location for three weeks. Janaki cooked for both of them every day because Vijaya couldn't stand the canteen food. They remained close friends until Vijaya's passing.
• Sowcar Janaki once told a magazine: 'Vijaya taught me that you don't need to shout to be heard on screen. She would just look at me, and I'd know exactly what my character was feeling.'
• The success of Akka Thangai (1969) directly inspired a wave of 'sister-bond' films in Tamil cinema through the 1970s, including the hit 'Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal' (1977) which also cast two leading ladies in a similar dynamic.
