• Milan Luthria cast Randeep Hooda as a gangster in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai specifically because he wanted a face that could stand up to Emraan Hashmi's screen presence. Hooda was relatively unknown then; Hashmi was already the 'serial kisser' star. Luthria bet the film's tension on that mismatch.
• In Jannat 2, Emraan Hashmi played the cool, smooth-talking conman while Randeep Hooda played the intense, morally rigid cop.
