Partnership facts

• Soori and Devadarshini first shared screen space in Deepavali (2007) because director Ezhil specifically wanted a pair who could play a married couple with natural, lived-in bickering — not dramatic fights. He cast them after seeing their individual comic timing in separate projects.
• In Sangili Bungili Kathava Thorae (2017), Soori’s character is the loud, panicky husband while Devadarshini plays the deadpan wife who barely reacts. The comedy works because she deliberately underplays every line, forcing him to escalate his reactions — she set the pace, he followed.
• Their pairing in Kanchana 3 (2019) was so well-received as a comic relief couple that the director Raghava Lawrence wrote a longer subplot for them in the film’s second half — something he hadn’t planned in the original script. That subplot became one of the most shared clips from the movie on YouTube.
• On the sets of Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022), Soori and Devadarshini would rehearse their scenes together in a corner before every take, even though both are seasoned improvisers. Devadarshini later told a behind-the-scenes crew that they did this because “we don’t want to surprise each other — we want to surprise the audience together.”
• Devadarshini said in a 2022 interview about Etharkkum Thunindhavan: “Soori and I don’t need to talk much before a scene. We just look at each other and know who’s going to take the lead. It’s like a dance where we switch partners mid-step.”
