• Dilip was a newcomer when Rajinikanth personally picked him to play the villain in Mappillai (1989). S. S. Chandran was already a veteran comedian. That film made Dilip a known face overnight.
• In Ennai Vittu Pogaathe (1988), Chandran played the comic sidekick to Dilip's hero. Their timing worked because Chandran deliberately slowed his delivery to match Dilip's raw, energetic style — a trick he later said he learned from watching M. G. R. pairs.
• After Pudhu Varisu (1990) bombed hard, Chandran told a magazine that Dilip was 'too nice to survive in this industry.' They never worked together again. No fight — just Chandran's blunt honesty about the business.
• S. S. Chandran once said in an interview: 'Dilip was like a younger brother on set. But after Pudhu Varisu, I told him — you need to grow a thick skin. I don't think he listened.'
• The only reason Pudhu Varisu (1990) exists is because Mappillai (1989) was a hit. The producer rushed a second collaboration without a proper script. That 1/10 disaster killed both their momentum — Dilip never got another lead role after it.
