Partnership facts

• They first met on the set of Varushamellam Vasantham (2002). Madhan Bob was already a known face. Mayilsamy was a newcomer. Bob reportedly helped Mayilsamy rehearse his lines before every take. That film became the start of a 17-year on-screen partnership.
• In Pallavan (2003), Madhan Bob played the straight man to Mayilsamy's chaotic energy. Bob would deliberately pause his dialogue delivery to let Mayilsamy's physical comedy land. Mayilsamy later said Bob's timing made him look funnier than he actually was.
• They never hung out outside shoots. But on set, they had a ritual: before every scene together, they'd share a single cigarette. Mayilsamy would light it, take one puff, pass it to Bob. Bob would finish it. They did this for every single film, including the 2019 hit Aalukku Paathi 50-50.
• Their double-act in Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva (2017) was so well-received that the director, S. S. Surya, wrote a separate comedy track for them in his next film. That track became the most shared clip from the movie on social media. It directly led to more comedy double-acts being cast in Tamil films that year.
• Mayilsamy once told a magazine: 'Madhan Bob is the only actor who can make me laugh even when I'm not in the mood. He'd whisper a joke right before the director said 'action,' and I'd have to hide my smile. That's why our scenes look so alive.'
• In Jeyikkira Kuthira (2017), they played rivals who eventually become friends. Bob improvised a line where he called Mayilsamy's character 'thambi' (little brother). Mayilsamy instantly responded with 'anna' (big brother) — unscripted. The director kept it in the final cut. That exchange became the emotional core of the film.
