• Dharmendra and Sunil Dutt first shared screen space in Badle Ki Aag (1982) because producer K.C. Bokadia needed two towering stars to sell a revenge saga. Neither had worked together before — Bokadia just threw them into the same frame and hoped the clash of machismo would work.
• In Watan Ke Rakhwale (1987), Dutt played the righteous cop and Dharmendra the rogue — a dynamic that flipped their usual on-screen personas. Dutt’s controlled intensity forced Dharmendra to dial down his comic swagger, making their confrontations feel genuinely tense.
• Despite making four films together, Dharmendra and Sunil Dutt were never close off-screen. Dutt was deeply political and spiritual; Dharmendra was the party animal. On the sets of Virodhi (1992), they barely spoke between shots — the director had to mediate every scene.
• Kshatriya (1993) was the only film where they played brothers — and it was also the last time they worked together. The film’s failure (5.4/10) effectively ended the pairing. No producer tried to cast them again after that.
