Partnership facts

• Senthil and Pandian first met on the set of Marudhani (1985) — but they almost didn't. The director wanted a different actor for Pandian's role. Pandian walked into the office unannounced, read one line, and got the part on the spot. Senthil was already cast, and that first scene together made the director reshoot the entire schedule.
• In Aankalai Nambathey (1987), Senthil kept breaking character because Pandian would whisper absurd alternate dialogues just before the camera rolled. Pandian never laughed — he'd deliver his lines stone-faced, which made Senthil's genuine laughter in the final cut feel real. That film became their first proper comedy hit.
• Their double-act in Koil Mani Osai (1988) directly inspired the template for the 'comedian-hero friend' pairing that dominated Tamil cinema in the early 90s. Goundamani and Senthil later admitted they studied Pandian-Senthil's timing from this film before they became the iconic duo themselves.
• On every single one of their five films, Senthil and Pandian shared the same makeup van — even when the production offered separate ones. They'd eat lunch together out of the same banana leaf, and Pandian would always save the last piece of murukku for Senthil. After Saaththaan Sollai Thattaathe (1990), they never spoke again. No fight. Just drifted.
• Pandian once told a magazine in 1989: 'Senthil is the only actor who can make me forget my lines. I watch him instead of the script.' He said it laughing, but the director of Thanga Kalasam (1988) confirmed they had to do 14 retakes of one scene because Pandian kept cracking up.
